Last year's Pentax Q digital interchangeable lens camera was only the beginning for this company in the DIL market.

Today, Pentax has announced a second DIL camera, the Pentax K-01.

The K-01 isn't quite as small as the Q, which I reviewed recently, but it still looks like a very interesting camera, especially because it can accept any Pentax K lens. As far as I can decipher, this is the first DIL camera that can accept lenses originally made for DSLR cameras.

On the heels of Kodak filing for bankruptcy, digital camera manufacturer Olympus is having its own financial problems.

Olympus is having problems with cash flow, and the company admitted to accounting irregularities late in 2011. The stock has lost more than half of its value, and some stockholders are filing suits against Olympus in Japan. The Tokyo Stock Exchange considered de-listing Olympus, but allowed the company to keep its listing after paying a fine.

Sony has announced three new point and shoot Cyber-shot cameras, including one that may be the most powerful ultra compact camera ever, in terms of resolution. The new cameras are:

• DSC-TX200V. The interesting looking TX200V ($500, pictured here) includes 18MP of resolution as well as a 3.3-inch display screen with touch screen capabilities.
• DSC-WX50. The WX50 ($200) has a 2.8-inch LCD screen and 16MP of resolution.
• DSC-WX70. The WX70 ($230) has specifications that closely match the WX50, but the WX70 has a 3.0-inch LCD and touch screen capabilities.

Many types of photos require use of the camera's flash to add enough light to shoot a successful photo.

However, with many point and shoot cameras, the flash unit provides spotty results because of its small size and off-center placement. Some larger flash units, such as the Nikon SB-900 Speedlight pictured here, will allow you to have better results than the smaller flash units.

Sony has recently announced plans to create a new generation of image sensor that should shrink the size of the sensor, while retaining high resolution qualities.

The new Sony sensors will be using back illuminated CMOS technology, which offers better power consumption and speed versus CCD image sensors.

When looking for unique photography situations, many people limit their thinking to finding unique subjects.

However, you also can create unique photos by using unique equipment, different perspectives, odd lighting situations, and unorthodox settings on the camera. For example, using a wide angle lens, such as the Nikkor 10-24 mm lens pictured here, can give you a different perspective.
